Abound – to increase, to be the best it can be

 

Access – admittance

 

Baptism of the Holy Spirit – When someone trusts Christ as Savior, the Holy Spirit places that person into the body of Christ.

 

Bears witness – gives supporting evidence

 

Beseech – invite, beg

 

Carnal – acting like an unsaved person; following the urges of the sinful human nature.  Carnal is the opposite of spiritual or mature.

 

Circumcision – a ceremony to identify Israelite males as chosen by God

 

Condemnation – a guilty verdict, judgment

 

Debased – rejected, worthless

 

Edifying – building up, strengthening, encouraging another believer

 

Elect – chosen

 

Established – strengthened or set on a firm basis

 

Esteem – to distinguish, determine, approve, choose

 

Exhortation – encouragement, comfort

 

Fervent – zeal for what is good, boiling with heat, hot

 

Grafted – to place into

 

Greek – Gentile, non-Jewish person

 

Heathen – uncivilized person who doesn’t know God

 

Intercession – going between, petitioning in favor of another

 

Justification – God declaring me not guilty and declaring me righteous in His sight when I place my faith in Christ’s death and resurrection as payment for my sins.

 

Lagging in diligence – slow, lazy, hesitating, delaying, “don’t care” attitude

 

The Law – rules and regulations given to Moses by God and recorded in the first five books of the Old Testament

 

Mystery – hidden truth that God has revealed

 

Offend – to entrap, to entice to sin, to hurt or harm

 

Present – place near or beside, give

 

Propitiation – the blood of Christ satisfying the requirements of the law. (Christ became our sacrifice by shedding His blood on the cross.  He took upon Himself all the filthy, disgusting burden of sin, so that, by faith, we could receive His righteousness.)

 

Reckon – count, compute, take inventory, consider

 

Remnant – that which is left, remainder

 

Repay – to give back, deliver, restore, reward, get even

 

Righteousness – God’s perfect goodness

 

Scruples – convictions that are self-made rather than based on Scripture

 

Sovereignty – supreme authority

 

Wretched – miserable, distressed
